I've just read about the accusations regarding Asia Argento. Considering she's been a prominent voice in the #MeToo movement and a victim of a rapist herself + a hate-campaign, I strongly encourage her to speak out about these accusations and address them. https://t.co/HNht8kAcfV— Pieke Roelofs #NoRoomToGroomOnYoutube (@PhotoandGrime) August 20, 2018
I'm shocked and overwhelmed reading this. At this moment I have no idea what to do or how to respond except for asking Asia Argento for a statement and research the story further. I will follow up with my opinion when more information becomes public.#MeToo— Pieke Roelofs #NoRoomToGroomOnYoutube (@PhotoandGrime) August 20, 2018
For activists in the #MeToo movement, a horror scenario rolled out this morning that has overwhelmed many of us. Asia Argento, a #MeToo activist, has been accused of paying off a child-actor regarding sexual assault. I've been in touch with many activists in the #MeToo movement and have been communicating this story to many of them. Many of us are in shock and need a little time processing this & researching it. After reading the article about it, I put up the tweets mentioned in this article, to ask Asia for a statement.
To Asia Argento: I've supported you since you spoke out about Harvey Weinstein. I've researched the hate-campaign that targeted you and have even addressed it in an article. Could you please address the accusations that have been made against you?#MeToohttps://t.co/88bbHVVr1t— Pieke Roelofs #NoRoomToGroomOnYoutube (@PhotoandGrime) August 20, 2018
I know the areas in law Goldberg works in (from blackmail to sexual assault remedies to public figure crisis) so I really wonder based on which area Asia Argento hired them - so again, I encourage her to make a statement.#MeToo pic.twitter.com/YMIxRShq2t— Pieke Roelofs #NoRoomToGroomOnYoutube (@PhotoandGrime) August 20, 2018
Obviously in hindsight this was a tad silly because they are not even EU lawyers but at the time I was so scared (and medicated/drugged due to being hospitalised) I just used the first hit on Google to get legal advice....— Pieke Roelofs #NoRoomToGroomOnYoutube (@PhotoandGrime) August 20, 2018
Just found out Goldberg represented Asia Argento in the case which makes it more personal for me because I've previously asked Goldberg legal advice in Feb 2017 regarding my rape case concerning rapist @Exurb1a based on their areas of expertise.#MeToo pic.twitter.com/TOK7D9tdi9— Pieke Roelofs #NoRoomToGroomOnYoutube (@PhotoandGrime) August 20, 2018
Just to make things clear, Goldberg never represented me & I only gained legal advice. At the time I was hospitalised & medicated & had no idea what to do in my situation so I just googled for a lawyer with expertise in my situation & contacted the first one showing up in Google.— Pieke Roelofs #NoRoomToGroomOnYoutube (@PhotoandGrime) August 20, 2018
Reading about Asia Argento's case does raise the question for me: Why did she reach out to Goldberg given their areas of expertise? What's her part of the story? Did she reach out for 'public figure crisis' or something else?— Pieke Roelofs #NoRoomToGroomOnYoutube (@PhotoandGrime) August 20, 2018
At this moment, I'm still gathering information about what happened. I'm waiting for a statement from Asia Argento and Jimmy Bennett, and I hope they both will make one soon, so I can address the situation with their statements included in an opinion article.
Personally, I'm very overwhelmed by this situation, and I've given myself some time to think about it and research it, before addressing it completely. If no statement will be made by Asia Argento within 3 weeks, I will address this situation and my opinion, regardless, given I've written about Asia Argento and #MeToo before.
I know that people who follow me for #MeToo news would want me to address this - and please know - I want to address this myself already. However, my court-case against the man who raped me is in September, so I have very little time to write because I'm overwhelmed with appointments regarding my own case. I want to address this situation in a proper in-depth article, and for that, I need time. For now, I just wanted to point out this story so others are aware of it and can research it already.
