Green UV Glow in the Dark Cupcake Recipe

These green cupcakes will glow in the dark in blacklight! Who wouldn't want to try them, especially when they're so yummy ;)! In this DIY video video I will tell you step by step how to make them.

The ingredient that makes the UV reactive buttercream glow in the dark in blacklight (ultraviolet light) is vitamin B2, also known as Riboflavin. Vitamin B2 glows neon yellow in UV light, especially when mixed with some water. Combine it with blue icing colour, and you get a green colour!

I made the UV glow cupcakes in three different shades of green. The lightest ones had less blue icing colour in them. The darker the shade you want, the more blue icing colour you need to use.

The only other ingredients I used for these glow cupcakes were powdered sugar and butter. You can of course add a flavour to your buttercream, like vanilla extract or rum.

This is what the UV glow in the dark cupcakes look like in normal light.

Here you can see the same three glow cupcakes in blacklight.

I decorated some of the glow cupcakes with some glow toppings I made. These are from my fake edible UV Glow caviar (doesn't contain fish!) recipe, which you can find here. Instead of Tonic, which I used in my original recipe, I used vitamin B2 and blue icing colour in these to make them glow green.

These UV glow in the dark cupcakes are awesome to serve at a (Halloween) blacklight party! Especially when you combine them with yellow glow cupcakes.
